DESCRIPTION:As part of National Francophone Immigration Week from November 3 to 9 2024\, the Victoria Francophone Society (VFS) would like to share the diversity of the Victoria francophone community by discovering different culinary specialties and/or drinks! \nFor this occasion\, we invite you to an evening of international culinary discovery. Explore traditional recipes from diverse countries\, discover their story and taste delicious food. \nDo you wish to showcase a local specialty?: \n– Voluntary service; \n– Reimbursement of ingredients of up to $50 + a VFS gift card offered for each volunteer; \n– Send an email to magali@sfvictoria.ca to confirm your participation with your last name\, first name\, and name of your specialty (food or drinks). \nWhat is required: \n– To cook food and/or prepare a drink for around 20 people (possibility to reheat the food at the VFS); \n– To present the recipe and the history of the food/drink to participants (approximately 10 minutes); \n– Send the recipe and the story by email in advance to magali@sfvictoria.ca so that a presentation can be created and showcased during the event \nN.B : Following this activity\, the VFS would like to publish a book of these Gourmet Stories to share the richness of this community with everyone.  \n\n\n\n\nTo discover the culinary specialties presented during this event\, please reserve your place below. Located in the courtyard of the Maison de la francophonie\, at Bastion Square\, it’s the perfect place to dance to the rhythms of the Francophone scene. Admission is free\, with a bar ready to serve you and a delicious menu available. This season\, it’s all happening at Plaza Franco! \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n🎵 Musical Performance –  The Islanders Hot Club 🎵\n\n\n\n\n\nLe Hot Club des Insulaires is a gypsy jazz (Manouche) ensemble from Victoria\, B.C. This trio of vagabonds re-lives the classic era of French Manouche\, American swing\, and Italian shoes. Faster than a New York minute and as smooth as a fine Pinot Noir\, these multi-instrumental\, multi-lingual\, multi-talented players will leave you wanting more. The group is co-led by double bassist Tim Croft and guitarist Nick Mintenko. The band leaders also double on vocalists (in English and French!). The guitarist Mitchell Green who brings his mischievous musette stylings to the band\, completes the trio. With modern twists on classics standards\, and classic takes on modern tunes\, the virtuosity of these seasoned pros will keep it swinging all night long.\n\n \n\nThe group has just released their debut album: GREENHOUSE BLUES. The recording features West Coast gypsy jazz legends\, Marc Atkinson and Daniel Lapp. Atkinson is also the album’s producer and sound engineer.\n\n \n\nFor this concert\, the group will be joined by Richard Moody on violin. Richard is an active\, local musician who has played with groups\, such as The Bills\, Ruth Moody and many other Canadian and international groups. Art and music are a way for them to transcend their experiences\, a journey of fighting women who have taken charge of their lives\, alone. \nLes Aunties\, in addition to the artistic project\, also take concrete action to inform and set an example (thanks in particular to the training received via the project) in the handling of tools essential to women’s empowerment: capital management\, savings\, bank accounts\, mobile money. \nBeyond the power of words and music\, the Aunties are launching an international women’s movement in their own image. \n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more!
